Joao Miyao vs Yukinori Sasa (gi)
Joao Miyao started slow before establishing a strategy that saw him pressure Sasa with non-stop guard passing. He came close with a collar choke from a knee cut position using a brabo grip but Sasa escaped. Maya took the back with about five minutes left in the match and secured a body triangle. Sara managed to slip out of the position after around three minutes. Miyao scored a pass in the last 45 seconds but was unable to find a finish.
Result: Draw

Geo Martinez vs Luiza Tosta (no gi):
Martinez sat to half guard early although couldn't draw Tosta into his game. A flying scissor takedown attempt allowed him to tangle up Tosta's legs from guard leading to a sweep. Martinez attempted to pass and looked for head and arm control but Tosta was able to escape up to his feet. Martinez worked from bottom for a while but was unable to isolate a limb or break Tosta's posture enough for a choke attempt. With around four minutes remaining Tosta gradually became more aggressive in his passing attempts. Martinez came close with a heel hook attempt around the 12-minute mark which forced Tosta to bail.

Darragh O'Conaill vs Jon Satava (gi):

O'Conaill pulled to guard and briefly worked an open guard before locking his legs around Satava. The American opened the guard and established a strong side control, with O'Conaill briefly regaining guard but Satava returned to top position moving between side control, north-south and knee-on-belly. O'Conaill retrieved guard but Satava's forward pressure was too great and he gained mount around nine-minutes into the match. They returned to their feet with 2.45 left in the match. O'Conaill hit a takedown and started passing but Satava rode out the clock working a deep-half guard ala his teammate Bernardo Faria.

Gezary Matuda vs Laurence Fouillat (gi):
An animated Matuda stayed on the outside of Fouillat's grips but the Frenchwoman managed to grab her and pull to guard. Gezary showed the same aggressive passing we saw from her in the final of her division at 2016 Pans, smashing Fouillat's legs and controlling the upper body. Three and a half minutes in Matuda passed the legs, forcing Fouillat to turn to her knees and expose her back. Fouillat recovered guard but Gezary's aggressive knee-cut passing gave her opponent no room to get her game going. Around seven minutes in Fouillat managed to deny Matuda's attempt to take her back and reversed the position, briefly coming up on top for the first time. Matura's strong grips and high workmate soon put Fouillat on the back foot and she resumed her attack from top position. The last third of the match played out much the same with Matura's fast pace keeping Fouillat on the defensive. She never quite managed to complete a pass against Fouillat's tricky guard but she completely nullified any attacks. Gezary dived for a loop choke attempt much like we saw recently when Queixinho put Marcio Andre to sleep at around the 13-minute mark. She hung onto the collar and moved through a series of attacks with this grip for the remainder of the match but appeared frustrated she couldn't find the finish before time was called.

Gianni Grippo vs Bruno Frazatto (gi):
As expected we saw an early battle from the double-guard pull. Frazatto came close with a guard pass attempt around two and a half minutes in thanks to a strong hold of Grippo's pants. Flipping position, Grippo worked more of a knee-through passing approach, but Frazatto used the lapel to prevent the pass. Grippo dropped back to guard and used effective leg fighting to come close to taking Frazatto's back but the veteran had to use some clever grip work to evade the position. They went back and forth in a variety of leg entanglements, rolling and inverting throughout. Grippo took it up a gear in the final stage of the match but the contest remained even and it was declared a draw.

Tanquinho vs Eddie Cummings (no gi):
Cummings predictably pulled guard and went straight after Tanquinho's legs, coming close with a heel hook within the opening 60 seconds. Tanquinho appeared more aggressive with his passing attempts against Cummings' seated guard than we saw from him the last time they met at ADCC in August last year, but smartly would know when to bail if he felt Cummings coming close to an attack position. Cummings came close with a heel hook six minutes in that forced Tanquinho to roll hard and kick out, although Cummings inadvertently took a knock to the face during the escape and took a brief time out. Cummings visibly slowed down at the halfway point and Tanquinho used this to explosively pop over the guard to hold side control for a brief moment. The Renzo Gracie team member showed a fantastic ability to frame and defend in the face of Tanquinho's passing attempts, easily countering the Brazilians tight head and arm control but unable to prevent his explosive opponent from tearing out of any of his set-ups.

AJ Agazarm vs Jake Shields (no gi):
The competitors engaged in an intense stare-down before given the command to begin but sensibly took it allow to gauge each other's intentions. Agazarm received a warning for slapping Shields during the feeling out process, but Shields didn't seem bothered. Agazarm shot one of his trademark singles from distance and Shields immediately put on a very tight guillotine that looked close to finishing it early. Agazarm gritted his teeth and fought out but Shields remained on top and started working a grinding heavy-pressure passing game, attaining and moving between side control, mount and the back. Shields jumped off for a kata-gatame head and arm choke at the halfway mark but Agazarm bridged and rolled his way to safety, escaping back up to his feet.

This time it was Shields who received a warning for a blatant series of slaps to the head of his opponent. Another Agazarm shot just after the ten-minute mark gave Shields top position once again, although this time Agazarm was able to secure closed guard. Both competitors received warnings while in this position for aggressive palms to the face and general rough-housing.

Shields moved to mount with two minutes left in the bout again hunting for a head and arm choke and dropping off for a tight armbar with around 40 seconds left. Somehow Agazarm managed to spin out and they battled for the remaining last seconds, but the real drama came after the final whistle. With tensions still running high Shields accosted Agazarm before the official decision was announced, eliciting a loud reaction from the crowd. Shields used his post-fight speech to claim Agazarm tried to gouge his eyes and call his opponent a "bitch'.

Garry Tonon vs Rousimar 'Toquinho' Palhares (no gi):
Tonon wasted no time in diving for Toquinho's legs. The Brazilian showed no fear of Tonon's attacks, happily twisting and turning his opponent's legs while Tonon worked his set-ups for an inside heel hook. The crowd would go wild every time Tonon came close to grabbing one of Toquinho's feet.

Back on the feet Toquinho launched Tonon with a huge suplex, dropping the young American black belt onto his back and getting a roar of approval from the crowd in the process. Unfazed, Tonon worked from his back and even looked for a triangle from guard but Toquinho's strength and power saw him easily shrug off the lightweight's attack.

More than once Palhares launched Tonon head over heels with wrestling-style leg attacks, but to his credit Tonon didn't seem at all bothered and would continue to hunt for his positions. Tonon showed some good wrestling skills of his own, coming close to getting Palhares' back with a sequence that started from standing but once again the Brazilian's power saw him easily escape.

Tonon came very close to catching an inverted heel hook at the eight-minute mark that had Toquinho grimacing and the Brazilian certainly seemed more hesitant following the attack. 11-minutes into the match Tonon used a guillotine / front headlock to reverse the visibly-tiring Brazilian and even move to mount, but Toquinho managed to explode out and once again put Tonon on his back.

Tonon used some nice guard work to sneak around to Palhares' back with around two and a half minutes left and switched from a standard seatbelt to a truck-style leg control. He looked close to catching an armlock in the transition but now both drenched with sweat, he lost the submission.

Palhares appeared to be running on fumes in the final 60-seconds but Tonon stayed active and attacked with everything from flying triangles to heel hooks, getting on top but ultimately unable to secure anything to force the submission.
