Are Russians The Most Aggressive Grapplers In The World?
Submission grappling exists in many forms around the world, from points-based contest either gi or no-gi, to no time-limit, submission only bouts. United World Wrestling (UWW) has codified a competition format know simply as 'Grappling' (read more here), and this version of the sport is very popular in Russia and nearby countries due to the fact it receives support from national and state federations.

The toughness of competitors who hail from that region is legendary, and though jiu-jitsu-style submission wrestling is relatively new in the area the competitors often have long backgrounds training in judo or sambo as well as freestyle, Greco-Roman or traditional ethnic forms of wrestling (of which there are many).

Russia, particularly the federal republics of Chechnya and Dagestan, have already produced a number of very skilled competitors, such as Abdurakhman Bilarov, Arbi Muradov and more.

Their mix of jiu-jitsu submissions with an aggressive wrestling mindset marks them out as ferocious competitors. Take a look at the highlight video from the recent UWW Russian Grappling Championship to see what we mean.
