Registration is now closed for the 2016 IBJJF Masters Worlds and over 3,600 athletes have signed up for the three-day competition, which runs Aug. 25-27.
There are plenty of big names who are or very recently were active in the main tournament circuit in the adult divisions.
2016 World silver medalist Caio Terra is in, as are fellow lighter weight competitors such as Milton Bastos, Osvaldo 'Queixinho' Moizino and Bruno Frazatto, who we saw at Worlds in June.
A few notable competitors are making their debuts at Masters, such as Romulo Barral (who announced his retirement from Worlds, but not from competition in general).
We're also seeing Clark Gracie at Masters for the first time as the San Diego-based grappler recently turned 30.
The black belt Masters 1 Ultra Heavy division is stacked with big names, including Atos's Joseph Moku Kahawai Jr., James Puopolo of Lovato BJJ and renowned grappler Vinny Magalhaes.
Some names of yesteryear are in at Masters 2, with Vitor 'Shaolin' Ribeiro in the light division alongside noted coach Cicero Costha. Eduardo Telles will compete along with Igor Gracie and more in the medium heavyweight division.
Saulo Ribeiro, king of the Master's division, is back and will look to conquer the Master 3 heavyweight division.
A name we haven't seen in the mix for many years is Carlson Gracie Jr, who is signed up for the Master 4 medium heavyweight division. He along with many of his team have signed up to honor the 10-year anniversary of his father's passing.
Other notable names include Fabricio Camoes of Gracie Humaita in at Master 2 heavywight. Rafael 'Gordinho' Corrêa de Lima, brother of 'Gordo' (creator of the half guard) is signed up for Master 3 medium heavyweight.
Studio 540 owner Robert Zeps is in at Master 4 heavyweight, and fan favorite Kurt Osiander will compete in the Master 5 medium heavy division.
