Saturday night was a big win for Mackenzie Dern, who submitted her opponent Montana Stewart in the first round of their strawweight bout.

Despite missing weight for her second pro fight, Saturday night was a big win for Mackenzie Dern, who submitted Montana Stewart in the first round of their strawweight bout at Legacy FC 61 in Dallas, Texas. 

The end came 3:25 into the first round when Dern locked in a deep omoplata that led to her snatching Stewart's neck from a crucifix-type position. The tangled submission made Dern's performance one of the most talked about of the weekend. She had this to say immediately after the win.

I don't know if she [tapped to] the shoulder or the choke, but I hope both were uncomfortable.


However, the novelty-looking choke is apparently something Dern works on a lot. This is the second time she's pulled out the intricate technique in a big match. Earlier this year the now 2-0 MMA fighter used it to submit Michelle Nicollini in the finals of the World Championship.
