Meet The 10th Planet Brown Belt Whose Leg Lock Video Hit 10 Million Views
There is a good chance that you've already seen the infamous video doing the rounds on social media: a drop, a spin, a tangle of legs and a very fast tap out.
There is a good chance that you've already seen the infamous video doing the rounds on social media since last Friday: a drop, a spin, a tangle of legs and a very fast tap out.
The 21-second video of a bout at Fight To Win Pro 24 went viral unlike anything we've released before. If it had been Buchecha or Rafael Mendes, we would have expected it.
But the star of the clip isn't a household name among jiu-jitsu fans. In fact, he's a brown belt under 10th Planet founder Eddie Bravo and a part-time veterinary technician.

Marvin Castelle is 25 years old and lives in Los Angeles. He trains daily under Bravo and teaches the advanced kid's classes at the gym.
In his prior martial arts experience, Castelle won two amateur MMA fights by submission, but he "didn't like getting kicked in the head." So he moved to jiu-jitsu after watching videos of the rubber guard phenom online.
"Marvin is a drill and flow fiend," Bravo said. "He drills like a man possessed."
Anybody watching the video can see the results of all that drilling. Castelle's smooth entry against Checkmat's Darby Faulkner is evidence of many, many hours on the mat.

Castelle already fought once on Fight To Win back at its Pro 16 show. And surprise, surprise, he won by heel hook.

But don't be fooled into thinking he's "just" a leg lock guy.
"He has serious offensive firepower from virtually every position in the game," said Bravo. "He's not just about leg locks, he's extremely well-rounded. He's got a high-level rubber guard, truck game and has wicked neck squeezes from most angles. He's one of my most promising prospects."

With so many people witness to his moves, how does Castelle feel about his newfound fame?
"I am really happy to make people motivated and eager to train jiu-jitsu, and learn to evolve physically and mentally," he says. "I hope the whole world could see how powerful jiu-jitsu is."
Next up for the 10th Planet brown belt is the ADCC North American West Coast Trials on April 15, which you can watch live here on FloGrappling.
