Brazilian National Pro Results

There are three cities in Brazil which produce the toughest black belts: Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and the Amazonian city of Manaus. It was the latter that hosted the Brazilian National Pro, a UAEJJF tournament that offered travel packages to Abu Dhabi World Pro for the winners.

There were plenty of noteworthy moments from the tournament:
• Jose Junior maintains his lead in the UAEJJF black belt rankings after an armbar win over Max Gimenis in the -110kg division final.

• Gabriel Arges won gold in both the -77kg division and the lightweight black belt absolute (also -77kg).

• Nicholas Meregali made a statement by beating Xande Ribeiro in the final of the -94 division. it was the first time the Alliance heavyweight competed as a black belt since being promoted in December 2016.

• Talita Alencar beat her rival Thamires Aquino of GF Team in the final of the -55kg division, with Aquino shoving Alencar at the end of the match. They were teammates until Alencar switched to Alliance, and tensions are high between them. Aquino beat Alencar at Euros, and though Alencar evened the score things are far from over between these two.

• Another black belt making his debut was Cleber Sousa of Almeida Jiu-Jitsu, who won the black belt -62kg division. Keep an eye out for this light featherweight terror.

IBJJF Houston Open

Though it was a quiet tournament in Houston in regard to the black belts in attendance, there were some notable results:

• Johnny Tama of Alliance Ecuador picked up black belt gold in the lightweight division, making his black belt debut a memorable one. Tama was promoted in December and has been out with injury for a while.

• Joao Miyao was there to win the light featherweight division, as expected.

• Samir Chantre didn't have anybody in his division, so the featherweight signed up for the absolute and had a great back-and-forth battle with lightweight Thiago Macedo. The action-packed bout even showcased some rarely seen wrestling from Chantre. Check out the video below.

Rodolfo Vieira Makes Quick Work Of His MMA Debut

One of the greatest heavyweight grapplers of the modern era, Rodolfo Vieira has always been tipped as a strong candidate for a successful MMA career.

Vieira made his MMA debut on Saturday night on an event called "Arzalet Fighting Globe Championship," beating 1-1 Zarylbek Daniyar of Kyrgyzstan by submission.

The 2015 ADCC -99kg champion, Vieira worked a slick jab before hitting an explosive takedown near the cage. From there it was as good as over, as Vieira easily took a rear-naked choke to go 1-0 in MMA.

No word on what's next for Vieira, but with his training being done at American Top Team there's a good chance we'll see him back in action soon.
