Leandro Lo Doubles Up! Wins Absolute & Heavyweight Gold At IBJJF 2017 Pans

Following a double gold medal-winning performance at the Europeans in January, Leandro Lo has done it again.

Lo was crowned the IBJJF 2017 Pan Jiu-Jitsu champion in both the heavyweight and absolute divisions.

The absolute final saw Lo go up against the ultra heavyweight Joao Gabriel Rocha of Soul Fighters. Lo was down on points due to takedowns but weathered the storm and submitted his opponent with a toehold.

In the heavyweight division final, Lo outpointed Tanner Rice in an exciting standup battle. Rice showed improved aggressiveness and an effective strategy in facing Lo, who he lost to by submission in the heavyweight final  at the Europeans, but Lo emerged victorious with a 4-2points win.

We caught u[ with him following the event and he had this to say:

I'm feeling really happy, I trained a lot to come here and win the absolute. It took me three years to make it, but thanks God it worked out.

I prepared myself physically, so I didn't get tired and lose my strength in the later matches.

I've trained takedowns a long time but now I'm more confident to exchange on the feet, I'm enjoying it and it's good to get on top and stay there!
