The absolute division was predictably wild: the semi-finals between Erberth and Buchecha, Leandro and Panza were dramatic and captivating.
But the prelim rounds of the weight divisions were equally entertaining and provided some "interesting" results.
Roberto Satoshi fought twice, submitting Checkmat's Marcelo Mafra with a triangle in his second match.
Up at middleweight, Mansher Khera beat Vinicius Marinho of GF Team (who took out Khera's best bud Dillon Danis last year) and 2017 European champ Alec Baulding. He's got 2016 champ and 2017 Pan champ Otavio Sousa next.
Jaime Canuto placed in the quarter finals by catching Josh Hinger with a flying armbar, one of the most spectacular moves of the day.
Gabriel Arges submitted Jon Satava with a bow and arrow to go through to the quarters. Remember, he closed out with Otavio Sousa last year.
Kit Dale beat two opponents to earn the right to face Andre Galvao in the medium heavyweight division. On the other side of the bracket, Felipe Pena won two and will face Renato Cardoso of Alliance.
Lucas Hulk outscored Dillon Danis in the opening round, and will face Romulo Barral next.
Adam Wardzinski put 11 points on Tanner Rice before submitting him in the heavyweight division.
GF Team's ultra heavyweight Alexander Trans lost by one advantage to Gustavo Elias in a match that had the team protesting loudly.
Talita Alencar beat Pati Fontes and also last year's silver medalist Kristina Barlaan to meet Gezary Matuda in the final. Submission machine Geazry tapped Thamires Aquino with a choke from the back to confirm her place in the final.
Surprisingly, Bianca Basilio lost in the first round of both her weight division (to Ana Carolina Schmitt) and Claudia Do Val in the absolute. She was a hot pick for a podium finish.
Beatriz Mesquita put 25 points on the board in her match with Jessica dos Santos, and will face Luiza Monteiro in the final of the lightweight division.
