Bernardo Faria Hints At Retirement, Plans To Open His Own Gym
Bernardo Faria has said he's not retiring -- but it kind of sounds like it to us.

The 2017 super heavyweight IBJJF World silver medalist was visibly upset following his heated final match with eventual champion Erberth Santos.

Now the dust has settled after Worlds, Faria posted a statement on his website where he intimates that he will step away from competition.

I believe that now its time to start enjoying and sharing more and more of what I have learned, instead of just thinking about my own training and career.

This not an retirement statement, but I'm also not sure when or if I'm going to compete again. All I can promise is that now it will be the time I will do my best to share all these experiences that I have had during these 17 years.

I will do it while I'm training, or while I'm teaching, or while I'm in the studio creating videos, or any time. Its time to be obsessed again, but now not about myself and my career, but about sharing as much as I can with everybody interested in learning and improving their Jiu-Jitsu game.

Out since he tore his pectoral muscle and failed to medal at the 2016 Worlds, Faria returned to take silver in 2017. The Alliance black belt won double gold at the 2015 IBJJF World Championships, and is a three-time IBJJF Pan absolute champion.

Based in New York where he taught classes at the Marcelo Garcia academy, Faria has stopped coaching and has been finalizing plans to open his own jiu-jitsu gym in Boston.

"Also, soon I will announce some big news for everyone who lives in the state of Massachusetts. And also for everyone who visits Massachusetts or have plans to visit the Boston area."
