Jackson wins GP in Brazil

DJ Jackson became the first American to win Copa Podio, competing in the Middleweight Grand Prix in Manaus. 

Battling the heat and humidity in the Amazon city -- not to mention a tough lineup of opponents including Gustavo Braga, Tommy Langaker, Fellipe Andrew, Kywan Gracie Behring, and Hugo Marques -- Jackson overcame the competition to be crowned middleweight Grand Prix champ. 

This marks the first time a non-Brazilian has won the event, considered one of Brazil's toughest. 

In order of his matches, the results were as follows:

Gutemberg Pereira makes impressive black belt debut

Brand-new GF Team black belt Gutemberg Pereira made quite the debut in Chicago. 

The super heavyweight submitted Steve Patterson and Josh Hinger (fighting up from his normal weight class of medium heavyweight). 

Pereira took gold in his weight division and silver in the absolute, losing only to Keenan Cornelius in the final. 

Worth noting is that Pereira faced the very tough Hinger twice, beating him via triangle both times.

Souza most active competitor pre-Grand Prix?

Alliance's Dimitrius Souza is busy warming up for IBJJF Heavyweight Grand Prix, taking double gold in Curitiba at the IBJJF Open. 

While the rest of the pack seem to be quietly preparing for the upcoming event, Souza has been extremely active, competing almost every weekend in events in Brazil. This marks the second week in a row he took double gold.
