Updates: Masters World Day One, Black Belt Divisions
The first day of the IBJJF 2017 World Master Jiu-Jitsu Championship is underway, and results from the key divisions have started to roll in.

The Masters 1 division featured a ton of familiar names, and the action was as you'd expect from Masters Worlds -- lots of fighting for the takedown, aggressive guard passing, great positional work and (of course) some slick submissions.

Read on for a recap of the results of the masters 1 division

Roosterweight
Milton Bastos (Ares) took home the gold in this incredibly deep roosterweight bracket. Last years champ Raul Gomes (Ribeiro) went down in the quarterfinal to returning silver medalist Juan Lopes (Carlson Gracie). Bastos would then go on to defeat Lopes in a close 2-0 match to advance to the finals against Andre Carvalho (Frontline). Carvalho had just defeated 2015 champ Takahito Yoshioka in the other semi. The final match saw Bastos winning an extremely close match with Carvalho by advantages.

Light-featherweight
Pablo Silva (Pablo Silva BJJ -- ZR Team) won his second straight worlds in the master 1 light-featherweight division. 1 advantage would be the difference in a finals match with 2015 champ Daniel Beleza (SAS). Beleza had just survived another nail biter, winning a ref decision in the semi against Luiz Felipe Ninja (Leonardo Pecanha association).

Featherweight
Ares BJJ teammates Osvaldo "Quexinho" Moizinho and Diego Bispo closed out this division for the 2nd straight year. They swapped positions on the podium this time around, with Bispo taking home the gold medal.

Lightweight
Bruno Pires (Ribeiro) defeated pan and worlds medalist Rafael Rosendo in this lightweight final. Francisco Pires (SAS) took home bronze in this division for the second straight year.

Middleweight
Clark Gracie claimed the top spot on the podium in the middleweight division, arguably the most stacked bracket in the tournament. Gracie steamrolled the competition in the earlier rounds before colliding with 2016 world champion Bruno Alves (ZR Team) in the final. Alves had just defeated Rafael "Formiga" Barbosa (Soul Fighters) in a semifinal matchup between masters world champs.

Medium-heavyweight
Vitor Oliveira (GF Team) repeated as champion in the medium-heavyweight division, and in doing so avenged a 2014 loss to Josh Hinger (Atos) in the final. Oliveira was on fire from the feet all day with seio nage throws all day, including one in his 2-0 win over Hinger in the final.

Heavyweight
Matthew Jubera (Ribeiro) looked extremely dominant in the heavyweight division, crushing opponents with devastating top pressure all day. In the final against two time world bronze medalist Wancler Oliveira (GF Team), Jubera went up 10 points before getting the finish with a choke.

Super-heavyweight
2016 World Masters super-heavy and absolute champion ran away with his weight class again. Any matches that didn't end with a submission saw Lovato dominate the positions throughout the duration.

Ultra-heavyweight
2016 runner-up James Puopolo (Ribeiro) crushed the competition this time around. After an impressive knee bar finish in the semi, Puopolo won his final by injury default while leading 7-0.
