Two-time ADCC champion Alexandre Ribeiro is already considered to be a legendary figure in ADCC. This weekend he will further cement his position as one of the organization's top competitors.
The six-time ADCC veteran -- who makes his seventh appearance when he competes at the ADCC 2017 World Championships in Espoo, Finland, on Saturday -- is not only the most experienced competitor in this year's field but also in ADCC history.

With 36 matches across six events, Ribeiro has competed more than any other athlete in ADCC.
Ribeiro first entered the tournament back in 2003 and returned to compete in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, and 2015. He was crowned champion in 2007 and 2009 and took absolute silver in 2009 and bronze in 2005.
At 36 years of age, Ribeiro usually competed at -99kg but will drop for the first time to -88kg for this event.
In terms of the most experienced competitors this year, only Leo Vieira and Baret Yoshida (who have both appeared in eight ADCC events and will make their ninth appearances this year) come close, with Vieira's 30 matches and Yoshida's 21 matches.
Update: Andre Galvao has had 24 matches in five ADCC events. Vinny Magalhaes, who has competed in four ADCC events, has 22 matches to his name.
