Armlocks, leg locks and chokes: just what we wanted to see at ADCC 2017!

Here are 10 of the most impressive submissions from day one of the tournament.

null

10. Keenan Cornelius's heelhook vs Kaynan Duarte

Atos teammates Keenan and Kaynan had to meet in the second round. Duarte impressed with a big win in his opening match, submitting ADCC veteran Pablo Popovitch with guillotine, but Keenan's ADCC experience saw him catch a heelhook for the win.

9. Ethan Crelinsten's triangle vs Nicholas Renier

Danaher Death Squad member Ethan Crelinsten is a super-sharp submission hunter, as he showed with this triangle over France's luta live rep Nicholas Renier in little over a minute and a half.

8. Jessica Flowers' armbar vs Marysia Malyjasiak

This lightning-fast finish from the 2015 silver medallist caught our eye. Check out the set-up.

7. Gabi Garcia's toehold over Amanda Alequin

Alequin bravely tried her luck against ADCC champ Garcia, but leaving a foot exposed against somebody of that level is a risky prospect. The resulting torque on the ankle made us wince.

6. Buchecha's rear naked choke vs Arman Zhanpeisov

Everybody knows Buchecha is  a beast, and this nasty choke just reinforces that. Savage.

5. Beatriz Mesquita armbar vs Ffion Davies

Beatriz Mesquita is a technical fiend, as her pinpoint armbar over the resilient European Trials winner shows.

4. Xande Ribeiro armbar of Rustam Chsiev

Ribeiro took it old school over the Russian wrestler with a classic armbar that came from a traditional closed guard set-up. Chsiev tried to grit it out but to no avail.

3. Gordon Ryan's rear naked choke of Romulo Barral

The simple fact Ryan went through Barral's guard, took his back and choked out the Gracie Barra legend is mind-blowing. Wait until you see it for yourself.

2 & 1. Craig Jones! Rear naked choke and flying triangle

Regardless of what happens from here on out, Craig Jones will forever be remembered as the man who shocked the world when he choked Leandro Lo and hit a flying triangle on Murilo Santana. Nothing more needs to be said, just watch for yourself.

ADCC 2021: A Very Early Look At 77KG

JT Torres ADCC

Last week I started the process of a series of articles speculating what the ADCC 2021 divisions will end up looking like, you can read the 66KG article here. While 66kg looks like it will be thin in terms of athletes who clearly deserve an invite, there os an abundance of established talent at 77kg, leaving few spots open and making the trials even more important at this weight.
