Does Phil Baroni's Size Advantage Give Him Any Chance Against AJ Agazarm?
Phil Baroni outweighs AJ Agazarm by more than twenty pounds. Does Baroni's give him any chance against Agazarm at Submission Underground 5?
Tonight at the Submission Underground 5 weigh-ins, we saw a massive discrepancy between the main event competitors AJ Agazarm and Phil Baroni.
Agazarm is fresh off of his stunning silver medal performance at 2017 ADCC, competing at 145lb and weighed in at 172.5lb. Baroni, a professional MMA fighter with a storied career in the UFC, Pride, and Strikeforce, weighed in at 194.6.
Agazarm is far and away the better grappler. He's got an impressive resume, including 2014 No Gi World Champion and his silver medal last week at the 2017 ADCC. Baroni is a seasoned veteran of the MMA world, but hasn't ever competed in a grappling specific event before tomorrow.
While 20lb is a big size advantage, the real question is if that extra size gives Baroni any shot of surviving Agazarm, who is known for taking on opponents who outsize him.
What do you think?
