This Is Pati Fontes' Chance At Revenge vs. Talita Alencar

Pati Fontes is looking to exact some revenge against Talita Alencar in their upcoming no-gi submission-only superfight in Los Angeles.

A two-time black belt no-gi world champion, Fontes has come up short in two previous meetings with Alencar — one by submission, one by advantages — but both of those matches were in the gi. Alencar is solid whether she's competing gi or no-gi, but the Alliance team member will face a new challenge against Fontes in the co-main of Fight To Win Pro 56 this Friday.

Fontes is a former ballerina and is noted for her flexibility and strength-to-bodyweight ratio. Everybody knows Alencar is a physical, gritty grappler, and Fontes has had trouble dealing with her pressure when they met in the gi. But under no-gi conditions, it opens up the question: Can Fontes implement a new gameplay that will finally see her victorious?

Take a look at their two previous matches — a showdown at the 2016 Grand Slam Los Angeles and a preliminary match at the 2017 World Championships (where Alencar went on to win gold).
