Female jiu-jitsu icon Kyra Gracie has broken new ground for women everywhere by announcing a female-only tournament. 

The championship, which will take place on March 24 in Rio de Janeiro, follows last July’s successful event Gracie Pro, which she organized. 

Gracie announced the tournament on her Instagram account: 

“For many years I was the only girl in the gym, I often felt unmotivated, but my passion for jiu-jitsu and making my dream come true was greater than adversity. For some time now I've been thinking about developing an exclusive women's championship, and that day has come. You are part of it! 

“Sign up and get ready for the Kyra Gracie Cup on March 24 in Rio de Janeiro. See you there to show the strength of women in jiu-jitsu.”
