“I am excited and happy to be back on this great show, which I had a blast competing at last time out,” Canuto said. “KASAI brings the best rules from the grappling world together, giving every player a good shot to win using their favorite competition style.”
A second-generation Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under his father, Valdir "Two Chico" Canuto, Renato bested seven other world-class grapplers at KASAI Pro in December 2017 to claim the inaugural KASAI world lightweight title. He then rounded out a sensational 2017 by winning the IBJJF World No-Gi Championships at the same weight class.

“We’re delighted that Renato is returning to KASAI,” said Rolles Gracie, KASAI President. “He was undoubtedly the MVP of our first pro event in December and we can’t wait to see this determined young champion step back on our mat.”
In addition to Canuto’s return, KASAI Pro 2 will showcase an eight-man, round-robin tournament at 185lb to crown KASAI’s first world middleweight champion. Among those already confirmed to compete are DJ Jackson, Richie Martinez, Matheus Diniz, Craig Jones, Dante Leon, and Nick Calvanese, who won KASAI’s middleweight qualifier last weekend.
