Road To Worlds: Alliance Training Report

The day after 2018 Brasileiros the Alliance competition team was back on the mats preparing for the upcoming IBJJF World Championship.

The 10am competition class was taught by black belt Fabio Caloi because the main instructor, Michael Langhi, was out of the country. Fabio Gurgel was also on site and after some business meetings came in to oversee training halfway through the session.

The class began with an extensive warm-up including various movements like forward rolls, hip escapes, Granby rolls, etc. Once complete, Caloi taught a series of passes from the Reverse De La Riva guard, which the athletes drilled for close to 30 minutes.

Sparring consisted of seven, six-minute rounds at a moderate pace. Many athletes were recovering from the weekend’s competition, and an emphasis was put on technique and avoiding injury.

Competitors such as Gianni Grippo, Isaque Bahiense, and Rafael Paganini were in attendance sharpening their game for the Mundials starting on May 30th.
