Up-and-coming Renzo Gracie team member Frank Rosenthal picked up a title belt at RISE Invitational 4 in New York by submitting his way to victory.

Rosenthal submitted Christian Medina (ECU Bronx) with a heel hook in just 20 seconds in his opening match before meeting Rey Rey (10th Planet HQ) in the tournament final.

The match was a hard-fought affair but Rosenthal worked diligently for the checkmate and it came just under seven minutes into the 10-minute bout.

Rosenthal is a "junior" member of the famed Danaher Death Squad and this is his second RISE title belt, having won the 145lb title in January.

Black belt superfight results

Two of the black belt superfights were decided in EBI overtime rounds.

Jason Rau made short work of Mike Padilla in the main event of the evening, submitting him with a rear naked choke in 1.59. Rau used a tight back control that trapped one of Padilla's arms, leaving him almost defenseless to the attack.

Rau works toward the tap versus Padilla.

Nick Pace and Alex Ecklin had a crazy match characterized by unorthodox entanglements and gritty submission defense. Pace won in overtime by scoring a submission via rear naked choke.

10th Planet’s PJ Barch won in overtime against Nick Ronan of Serra BJJ, continuing the West Coast-East Coast rivalry.

All matches will be uploaded to FloGrappling soon.
