Meyran Maquine is an 18-year-old Sao Paulo native who is currently spending his training camp at Team Lloyd Irving in Camp Springs, MD, for the second straight year in preparation for the upcoming IBJJF World Championships.

Before his promotion to purple belt, the Guigo Jiu-Jitsu/TLI standout racked up wins in the blue belt divisions, capping an excellent competition record at the rank by taking first place at the 2017 World Championships.

And his success hasn’t slowed down since entering the adult divisions as a purple belt.

Maquine told us that the biggest difference between training at home in Brazil and TLI is the level of personalized care and attention he receives in Maryland. He also certainly benefits from elite levels training partners like Shane Jamil Hill-Taylor, Tim Spriggs, and the numerous competitors at TLI.

Maquine will be competing in a STACKED featherweight division next week in Long Beach, CA, which includes standout prospects such as Pedro Serrano, Andy Murasaki, and Yaroslav Blazhko from Ukraine. We're excited to see if the young up-and-comer has what it takes to win his third major event of the year.
