Kasai is set to ramp things back up on the coast jiu-jitsu scene with their second open tournament and Pro qualifier going down June 16 in Queens, NY.
Kasai is set to ramp things back up on the coast jiu-jitsu scene with their second open tournament and Pro qualifier going down June 16 in Queens, NY.
The open tournament will feature gi and no-gi division for men & women. Gi divisions are separated by belt rank; no-gi athletes will have beginner, intermediate, and advanced divisions available to choose from. The 170lb advanced division is considered the qualifying bracket for Kasai Pro 3, and the winner will which entered in the Pro event that is slated to go down in mid-August.
Though only a purple belt, Junny Ocasio from Unity won the first qualifying event and had an excellent performance against established black belts like Gianni Grippo and Erico Cocco. The second edition of the Elite Grappling Championships will offer that same opportunity on June 16.
KASAI Pro 3 will feature an eight-man, no-gi tournament to decide the organization’s inaugural world welterweight champion (170lbs). Top performers from the world of Jiu-Jitsu will compete in multiple six-minute bouts across two round-robin brackets. Victories by submission will receive more credit and the winners of each bracket will meet in the championship finals.
