Las Vegas, Munich, Sao Paulo... the international jiu-jitsu scene doesn't stop, here's what you may have missed.

Horlando Monteiro Does Quadruple Gold

Competing in both the gi and no-gi divisions, Horlando Monteiro won gold in the heavyweight and absolute divisions and looked pretty unstoppable along the way.

Monteiro narrowly missed out on the podium at Worlds, losing to silver medalist Gustavo Batista via decision in the quarterfinals of the medium-heavyweight division despite coming close to finishing the match with a triangle.

His triangle proved to be a decisive weapon over the weekend, as he used it to submit Manuel Ribamar (Unity) in the final of the no-gi absolute division. In the final of the gi heavyweight division, Monteiro beat Rafael Vasconcelos (Atos) by advantage, and in the absolute scored three sweeps to beat James Puopolo 6-2.

American Nationals: Notable Results

It was a good weekend for the newly-promoted as we saw a number of grapplers test out their brand new belts since getting promoted at and around Worlds.

Lucas Protasio broke in his brand new purple belt with a gold at lightweight at American Nationals, as did light-feather champion Mayssa Bastos in her first outing as a black belt, lightweight champ Matheus Luna in his first tournament as a brown belt, and Ronaldo Jr of Atos became brown belt weight and absolute champion after getting promoted just two weeks ago.

The no-gi divisions saw some great matches, with Lucas Pinheiro, Pablo Mantovani, Herbert Burns and Dustin Akbari all taking gold.

The highlight of the weekend was new black belt Jeremiah Vance (10th Planet) hitting a bizarre and unorthodox choke from bottom side control he calls the venus fly trap. Seriously, have you ever seen anything like this?
