Two of F2W’s most active athletes took to the main event tonight in Chicago, IL.
Two of Fight 2 Win's most active athletes took to the main event tonight in Chicago, IL and fans were treated to an incredible last-minute submission finish in the match between Dante Leon & Matt Leighton.
The bout opened with Leighton pulling guard quickly, opting to cycle between lasso, spider, and DLR guard variations. The initial momentum was all Leon though, who was aggressively searching for the leg drag pass, nearly taking Leighton's back in the process early on. But Leighton weathered the storm with the cool, collected attitude of a veteran athelte, and was able to recompose his guard and begin to slow Leon down.
The tide shifted midway through the match as Leon's stamina began to fade, allowing Leighton to impose his game, nearly sweeping Leon several times. With less than one minute left Leighton elevated Leon with a sweep from lasso guard, and transitioned to the armbar midflight– a brilliant move that saw Leighton finish the fight and take the win.
A huge win for the rising star out of Bonsai jiu-jistu.
