The dates for the 2019 edition of the IBJJF European Championship have been announced, with the event returning to Lisbon, Portugal in January. 

The tournament venue has been booked from Monday Jan 14 through to Sunday Jan 20. The tournament could potentially start on Mon 14 or Tues 15, depending on how many competitors sign up. 

This will be the 16th edition of the IBJJF European Championship, a tournament that has been running since 2004. It is one of the most important events on the IBJJF calendar and considered one of the IBJJF “Grand Slam” events. 

It has grown steadily over the last couple of years and become a nearly week-long tournament, increasing the number of days each year to accommodate the number of entrants from around the world. 

Along with Brazilian Nationals and World Masters, it is one of the biggest IBJJF tournaments of the year. There were over 4000 registered competitors from 70+ countries in 2018.
