10th Planet Wins Big At SUBVERSIV

SUBVERSIV was an event met with high expectations and rapt anticipation from jiu-jitsu fans. It boasted a new format with a simple goal: find the best team in grappling by pitting the best of the squad against each other in submission only matches.

The inaugural edition of the show saw 10th Planet, Carlson Gracie, CSW, and Team Lloyd Irvin put forth five members, and the action did not disappoint.

The first round of competition  TLI sweep CSW 4-0, a necessary feat for them to advance as they were actually down a member – Jason Soares was injured before the event and TLI was unable to replace the 145lber before the show and 10th planet go 4-1 against CSW.  Standout performances include Geo MArtinez’s gogoplata finish over Alex Sever and Richie Martinez’s heel hook sub on Sami Abdolakder.

TLI opened the final round with two big wins: Tim Spriggs came out on top over Kyle Bohem after a battle that went into the overtime rounds and DJ Jackson submitted Richie Martinez with a kimura inside of regulation.

But the momentum switched in a big way when PJ Barch came out and submitted Angelo Claiborne with heelhook in the opening minutes of the match, technically putting 10th planet in the lead as TLI had to forfeit the 145lb match due to no-show.

The fate of the tournament then lay in the hands of Liz Carmouche and Nyjah Rollins. Carmouche opened the round with a quick trip and never looked back.   Dominant with top pressure, Carmouche eventually secured a d'arce  finish and the team title for 10th planet
