Who will compete?

The list of registered competitors reads like a who's who of jiu-jitsu and grappling. 2017 absolute champ Lucas "Hulk" Barbosa returns at super-heavyweight. Hulk holds an incredible four No-Gi World titles in four years, winning in 2015, 2016, and taking double gold in 2017. His Atos teammate Josh Hinger will be aiming for his third World No-Gi title in as many years.

Remarkably, Pati Fontes of Checkmat is going for her fourth gold medal in as many years in the light-featherweight division. Joao Miyao is also hunting for his fourth World No-Gi gold medal.

Five-time World No-Gi champion Roberto Cyborg Abreu is signed up at ultra-heavyweight, a division he has won four times. Cyborg also captured the absolute gold in 2010.

Gordon Ryan returns to IBJJF

Hot off his double-gold performance at the IBJJF Pan No-Gi Championship, Gordon Ryan has put his name in for the World No-Gi in December.

Even though he's a vocal opponent of the ruleset (surprise surprise, he would prefer if heel hooks were legal) Ryan returned to IBJJF rules tournament in September after almost three years away competing in submission-only and ADCC.

Ryan cruised to gold in both the ultra-heavyweight and absolute division, beating Kaynan Duarte and Max Gimenis en route to becoming "champ champ".

Even though he freely admits his dislike of training in the gi, Ryan has teased that he will soon make his gi debut. But for now, Ryan will compete in the ultra-heavyweight division (+215lbs / 97.5kg).

10th Planet are bringing an army

Eddie Bravo’s no-gi jiu-jitsu team will descend in force upon the IBJJF 2018 No-Gi World Championship.

At the time of writing, they will send a total of 67 athletes to the biggest no-gi tournament of the year. The list of standout black belts currently registered to compete under the 10th Planet banner includes submission wizard Jeremiah Vance, Imanari Roll master Marvin Castelle, EBI veteran Adam Sachnoff and more.
