Gianni Grippo put a stamp on an incredible 2018 by submitting Marcio Andre to take home top honors in the lightweight division at NO-Gi Worlds last weekend.

The path to the top of the podium was checkered with gritty matches and tough opponents – Grippo had to beast his way through perennial dark horse Masahiro Iwasaki and veteran Checkmat athlete Rodrigo Freitas before meeting previous No-Gi World Champion Marcio Andre in the highly anticipated match.

Incredibly, Gianni not only bested Andre, but he managed to take the Nova Uniao’s representative back and finish the fight with a RNC, securing his road to gold as one of the most impressive of the weekend.
