KASAI Super Series Adds Raquel Canuto vs. Chelsah Lyons

KASAI Elite Grappling Championships has confirmed that Raquel Canuto and Chelsah Lyons will meet in a superfight at KASAI Super Series on Saturday, Feb. 2 at The Bomb Factory in Dallas, Texas.

Raquel Pa’aluhi Canuto is a jiu-jitsu black belt who in 2017 won the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship. An MMA fighter with 12 bouts on her record, Raquel is also the spouse of two-division KASAI World Champion Renato Canuto. She represents Checkmat. 

Chelsah Lyons is a black belt and instructor at Marcelo Garcia Dallas. An accomplished grappler with medals in the colored belt ranks at tournament such as the IBJJF No-Gi World and No-Gi Pan Championships, she also has three Fight 2 Win pro victories in gi and no-gi. 

“Raquel and Chelsah are both very accomplished and dynamic grapplers,” said KASAI President Rolles Gracie. “This matchup should be very exciting to watch.”

In addition to Lyons vs. Canuto, KASAI Super Series will also showcase some of jiu-jitsu’s most decorated names in compelling feature fights including:  

  • Gordon Ryan vs. Joao Gabriel Rocha
  • Marcio Andre vs. Renato Canuto
  • Vagner Rocha vs. Matheus Lutes
  • Tom DeBlass vs. Bruno Bastos
  • Aaron “Tex” Johnson vs. Ricardo “Demente” Abreu

The men’s purple belt divisions lit up the opening day of the 2019 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Irvine, CA. Of the 10 available gold medals, nine were claimed by Brazilians while the Japanese grappler Hiryu Niwa took top spot in the roosterweight division.
