FloGrappling 2018 Breakthrough Grappler of the year: Kaynan Duarte

Kaynan Duarte opened 2018 in impressive fashion – the Atos representative battled his way to the final of the European championships

But he would not be deterred.

Duarte clawed his way back into the absolute final where he'd find long-time rival Victor Hugo waiting for him. Duarte was able to impose his game and capture the 2018 European brown belt absolute title.

The rest of the year was a similar story for Duarte, Double gold at Pans, double gold at Worlds and a promotion to black belt. He then went on to face Gordon Ryan at No-Gi Pans and gave the black belt his toughest match of the event.  Not to be discouraged, Duarte completed his year with super-heavyweight gold at No-Gi Worlds.

  • Brown Belt Absolute European Champion
  • Brown Belt Pan Champion (Weight + Absolute)
  • Brown Belt IBJJF World Champion (weight + absolute)
  • Black Belt IBJJF No-Gi World Champion
  • SPYDER Invitational Champion
