Final Card Confirmed for KASAI Super Series, Feb. 2

KASAI Super Series will showcase some of jiu-jitsu’s most decorated names in compelling feature fights including Gordon Ryan vs. Joao Gabriel Rocha. The event will take place on Feb. 2, 2019 in Dallas, TX. 

Also on the show is two-division KASAI World Champion Renato Canuto, who faces off with 2016 IBJJF no-gi world champ Marcio Andre in a no-gi superfight. 

Supported by big super fights such as Tom Deblass vs. Bruno Bastos, Vagner Rocha vs. Matheus Lutes, Ricardo “Demente” Abreu vs. Aaron “Tex” Johnson, Raquel Canuto vs. Chelsah Lyons and Lucas Valente vs. Rafael “Formiga” Barbosa, the full line-up is now complete. 

“Our main card is now set to go,” said KASAI CEO Rich Byrne. “We can’t wait to unleash this killer roster of BJJ stars on the city of Dallas!”

Most recently confirmed for the main card are as follows: Vinny Saenz takes on Edwin “Junny” Ocasio, Andressa Cintra will face Jessica Swanson and Mike Medrano will duel Alex Martins. 

Edwin “Junny” Ocasio is a brown belt who trains out of Unity Jiu Jitsu in New York City under Murilo Santana. He has a stellar competition record. Junny shocked the grappling scene when he won the KASAI Pro Qualifier and secured his spot in the inaugural KASAI Pro 1 Lightweight Tournament. Since then, Junny has been on the last two KASAI fight cards. 

Vinny Saenz is a 23-year-old standout brown belt from Kingdom Jiu-Jitsu who trains under the Lovato Jiu Jitsu Association banner. He won the adult brown belt 62kg championship at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Los Angeles in 2018, and has numerous other wins at other promotions such as Fight 2 Win, Five Grappling and the Onnit Invitational. 

Andressa Cintra is a black belt who trains under Sebastian Lalli, having also worked under the guidance of Luiz Guilherme (Guigo), Caio Almeida and João Guedes. Andressa is one of the top female athletes of the last few years. She is the IBJJF World Champion (2017 brown belt), CBJJ Brasileiro Champion (2017 brown belt) and IBJJF South American Champion (2017 brown belt). 

Jessica Swanson is a black belt who trains under Rafael “Formiga” Barbosa and is a representative of the Soul Fighters team. Widely regarded as one of the top middleweights, Jessica is the IBJJF World Champion (2018 brown belt), IBJJF Pan Champion (2017 / 2018 brown belt) and the IBJJF São Paulo BJJ Pro Champion (2018). 

Alex Martins is a black belt who trains under Junior Cardoso and is a member of Faustino Pina’s Association and a founder of the AMBJJ team in the United States. He has been a formidable competitor in the Master divisions, winning the IBJJF World Masters Championship in 2016. 

Mike Medrano is a black belt who trains under Erik Owings at Mushin MMA in New York. Medrano is also a Professional MMA fighter since 2007 with over 25 pro fights. He is also a CrossFit competitor and founder of Aesthetic Temple Gym in New Jersey. Mike is best known for his strength and aggressiveness.
