Bellator 214 featured two names from the world of jiu-jitsu mixing it up in MMA. The two very different figures also saw very different results.
Firstly, AJ Agazarm made his long-awaited professional debut in a 160lb catchweight bout against the unheralded 0-0 Jesse Roberts. Agazarm is a no-gi black belt World champion and has been training with MMA royalty Nick and Nate Diaz, as well as working his striking at the famous gym Wild Card Boxing. Expectations were high for the 31-year-old, but the match was a clunky affair that did little to show off Agazarm's grappling skills.

Agazarm did secure the back a number of times during the fight, but Roberts' choke defense was on point and he gritted out two deep sub attempts, aided by the bell at the end of the second round.
The judges rendered a split decision in favor of Roberts, who moved to 1-0. Agazarm was characteristically defiant following the fight, he posted "Unlike most fighters who save their embarrassing, clumsy, disasters for the END of their careers, I figured I'd just get mine out of the way at the beginning of mine."
For 21-year-old purple belt Jay-Jay Wilson, his second professional appearance in the Bellator cage couldn't have gone better.
145lb'er Wilson blew through debut fighter Tyler Beneke in just 91 seconds, and while the fight was short it contained plenty of action. Wilson's striking looked crisp, his clinch saw him put Beneke down and he secured a fight-ending rear naked choke with ease.
The New Zealander lives in San Diego and trains at Alliance, and we've seen him compete in both gi and no-gi events such as IBJJF Worlds, Royal, World Series of Grappling and more.
