When it comes to jiu-jitsu has an educational program in the United States, the martial art has largely been restricted to after-school programs and recreational classes.
Which is an entirely admirable project in of itself, but one man is looking to take things even further: legendary black belt coach and fighter Ricardo Liborio.
For those who don't know, Liborio is one of Carlson Gracie’s most accomplished students - the winner of the inaugural World Championships in 1996 and an ADCC 2015 super fight winner, Liborio has transitioned from successful competitor to one of the most influential coaches in jiu-jitsu and mixed martial arts.
After working alongside the launch of after-school programs throughout Orlando, (a total of 8 high schools will have jiu-jitsu after-school programs by October 2019), Liborio has made the right connections to get jiu-jitsu into the University of Central Florida as a 2 credit elective course – a class that will actually count towards graduation requirements should the students take it.
In order to drive awareness to the program, Liborio has launched another initiative: The Resenha Series, which will serve to promote jiu-jitsu throughout Florida by proving a view into jiu-jitsu culture through a series of seminars, an open mat session, and even a chance to compete!
The first Resenha goes down March 2nd 10am-3pm, Knights Mixed Martial Arts @ UCF.
Alongside Liborio, the first Resenha will feature seminars from ADCC & World champion Rodolfo Viera, World Champion & UFC title contender Jacare Souza, and World Champion Gezary Matuda.
Besides these three incredible seminars and an open mat open mat, there will also be wa no-gi competition component that will add another element of excitement to the event.
