Controversy in 62kg black belt 

Joao Gabriel Sousa (ZR Team) opened strong with a submission win over Cleber Sousa (Almeida JJ) thanks to a strong choke, but it was the match with Joe MIyao that got the most attention. 

A series of dubious referee calls and some problems with the scoreboard had Miyao and his team protesting the result, which was 4-4 and 1 advantage in favor of Sousa. The officials double checked the result via the video and it was decided it would stand, which put Sousa into the final and left Miyao fighting for third in the repechage.

85kg: Negromonte and Hulk to clash in final 

The 85kg division will see two powerhouses face off in the final. Usually one of the most stacked divisions, London-based naegromonte (Roger Gracie) and the US-based “Hulk” (Atos) only had one match each. Negromonte defeated Igor Sousa 4-4, 1-0 adv, while Barbosa submitted Maciej Kozak of Poland. 

Wardzinski vs Kaynan in 94kg final 

Adam Wardzinski (Poland) will look for his second ADGS gold medal after winning in Abu Dhabi in January, but his opponent will be ADGS Rio champion Kaynan Duarte. The semifinals saw Duarte beat Felipe Musssolino 4-0 while Wardzinski racked up a 9-2 win over Matheus Romero.

Paquito on a roll: takes out Lara and Ramalho 

Pedro Ramalho (Portugal) tore through the opening rounds of the 77kg black belt division, submitting Leo Lara and then beating highly-ranked Diego Ramalho 6-0. See below for how "Paquito" blows past Lara's guard for the match-ending submission.

Nasty ankle lock puts Doederlein in 69kg division 

Isaac Doederlein (USA) showed us at the recent European Championships that his ankle lock is on point, and he use it once again to submit Tiago Bravo in the semifinal. That put Doederlein into the final where he'll face Paulo Miyao. They last faced off in January so this is an opportunity for the American to settle the score. Miyao had a submission over Jablonski (Poland) and a points win over Joao Goncalves Neto. 

Bravo gritted through a nasty ankle injury caused by Doederlein’s submission to fight his way into the third place match but lost to Goncalves in a 0-0, 2-0 adv match.

77kg final: Sweden vs Brazil 

Max Linblad of Sweden shut down Ramalho's momentum with a 2-0 win, putting him in the final vs Guilherme Rocha of Brazil (ZR Team). Rocha had three matches to get into he final, beating Fabricio Barboarotti (Brazil), Martin Aedma (Estonia) and David Ben Zaken (Israel). They'll be up around 4.30pm on Mat 4. 

Cook and Silva rivalry continues 

Samantha Cook and Thamara Silva have been going head to head for most of the season, and it's 3-2 in favor of Silva right now. They're set to meet in the 70kg final. Sam got two submissions en route to the finals, taking out Jesmine Latrach of Holland and Vedha Toscano of USA. Thamara Silva submitted Magdalena Loska (POL) and outscored Martina Gramenius (SWE) 14-2.
