Purple Belt Pedro Marinho Wins KASAI Qualifier, Set to Compete at KP5

Pedro Marinho stormed through the challenging  205lb bracket at the Elite Grappling Championships 3 last weekend to earn his spot in the KASAI Pro Grand Prix.

Marinho will be joining Jackson Sousa, Kaynan Duarte, Felipe Pena, Craig Jones, Tim Spriggs, and more at KASAI Pro 5 in the KASAI World Light-Heavyweight Championship on Saturday, April 6th at Manhattan Center’s Hammerstein Ballroom.

'This kid was impressive,’ said KASAI CEO Rich Byrne, 'He beat a lot of high-quality guys, including Vinicius Ferreira from Alliance, who was the runner up. We think he will do extremely well in the tournament on April 6.’

We saw from Marinho’s performance at the Elite Grappling Championships that he has elite level guard passing and isn’t afraid to dive on a guillotine attack from anywhere.

Already an accomplished purple belt competitor, Marinho has Brazilian Nationals and No-Gi Worlds, however,  making the jump from purple belt to challenge the best black belt athletes in the world is tall order, and we're eager to see if the 22-year-old can rise to the occasion.

8-man 205lbs tournament

  • Felipe Pena
  • Craig Jones
  • Tim Spriggs
  • Kaynan Duarte
  • Aaron 'Tex' Johnson
  • Jackson Sousa
  • Muslim 'Mesi' Pasarigov
  • Pedro Marinho (Qualifier Winner)
