Pan Black Belt Absolute Division Brackets OUT NOW

The brackets are out for the Pan black belt absolute division! Get a look at them right here.

Leandro Lo is looking for his third Pan absolute gold medal in a row, and to do that he will have to advance through a division that has Rudson Mateus, Max Gimenis and former student and teammate Gustavo Batista on his side of the bracket.

On the second page of the 18-man bracket lies Lucas “Hulk” Barbosa, who will likely face off with Fellipe Andrew in the quarterfinal. Hulk won absolute gold at Brazilian Nationals last year, but lost to Andrew here at Pans last year.

Gutemberg Pereira and Mahamed Alt will most likely rematch in the quarterfinal. Pereira won their last match exactly one year ago to claim his place in the absolute final versus Lo, whereas Aly shockingly beat Lo in the final of the World Championships.

Dante Leon has had a breakout year in 2019, storming the no-gi circuit with submission wins over Isaque Bahiense, Edwin Najmi, and Matheus Lutes to go with a fourth-place finish at ADCC. Dante was no slouch in previous years, winning Pan No-Gi twice and finishing third at No-Gi Worlds, but he has no doubt gone up a level in 2019.
