Marcos Tinoco's submission game is on point, and he'll need every attack in his arsenal for his showdown with Romulo Barral at KASAI Pro 5

His opponent Romulo Barral is a highly decorated veteran grappler with five World titles between 2007 and 2014 and an ADCC gold medal in 2013. However, he competed only three times in 2018 and this will be his first match of 2019.

Whereas Tinoco– a Marcelo Garcia black belt– has been one of the most active competitors of the last year, winning medals in four continents and making it to the podium of the most important tournaments on the planet.

Take a look at his resume and see for yourself:

  • 2018 Brazilian National champ (with four submissions in five matches).
  • 2018 European silver (close out)
  • 2018 Pan silver medal
  • 2018 World No-Gi silver medal
  • 2018 Pan No-Gi silver medal
  • 2018 World bronze medal
  • Winner of Grand Slams in Rio, Los Angeles, Abu Dhabi and London

We were there at matisse for the 2018 IBJJF Pan No-Gi in New York, where Tinoco stormed to gold. His gold medal match was a win over KASAI Pro veteran and tough wrestler Nick Calvanese, showing that Tinoco has got both takedown and submission skills.

Barral will be flying in from Los Angeles, meaning Tinoco has the home advantage– he teaches daily at MGA just a few blocks away from the KASAI Pro 5 venue, the Hammerstein Ballroom. With the support of friends, family and teammates look for Tinoco to want to put on a show against Barral on Saturday night.
