American Nationals is the first major IBJJF of the year post-worlds, and while many athletes take this period to recuperate from a long season, others are looking to get a jump on the rankings and being their quest to gain the ever-necessary qualifying points for next year's majors. 

The event also serves as a launching point for my athlete's who were promoted to the net rank after the 2019 World Championships, case in point – Guiterry Barbosa, who landed a sick submission over Chad Shaule in the middleweight quarterfinals.
