"We've been under Alliance for 10 years and have supported the team, and it's time to move on."
Alliance Las Vegas owner Raul Jiminez announced on social media that they will be stepping away from their affiliation. After 10 years representing the Alliance flag, they can not continue to pay the franchise fee.
"We can not pay the franchise [fee] anymore because we lost 50% of our students and can't open the gym."
Today, Alliance Las Vegas is now unaffiliated and goes under the name "Studio 76 Las Vegas." As the pandemic drags on, jiu-jitsu gyms worldwide are concerned about how they will cope during these tough economic times. Studio 76 Las Vegas urges students to continue their gym payments.
"In jiu-jitsu we are supposed to be a family. We take care of each other. We go through hard times. We get injured, we help each other recover. We have a rough day at work, we vent on the mat. We get our hearts broken, we train hard. And guess what? This is because the professors are able to keep the business going. NOW it's time to step up as students/friends/family and SUPPORT THE PROFESSORS that have given us all a home to train in. Keep YOUR membership active. Make a good difference."
While members would certainly like to support their local academy during COVID-19, most simply can't afford it. For members who are being crushed financially during quarantine, Raulo and Roberto still invite their students to come train.
"If my students don't have money to pay me, they can come to train and someday pay me back."
Fight To Win 140: Roberto Jimenez vs Gabriel Almeida
While the academy is going through this transition, Roberto Jimenez is preparing to compete this weekend at Fight To Win 140, against Gabriel Almeida. Roberto had an incredible debut in the black belt division against Keenan Cornelius. That winning streak continued until he faced Lucas Barbosa at Fight To Win 137. Now Roberto plans to bounce back by submitting the #7 ranked blackbelt in the medium heavyweight division.
