Jitzking Brings Pro Grappling Back To Florida With Stacked 16-Man Tourney

Hot on the heels of other major grappling promotions, Jitzking will return and they're hosting a stacked 16-man middleweight bracket.

And the line-up is loaded with a mix of talent from purple to black belt. Standout names include the IBJJF no-gi World champ Johnny Tama, Bellator MMA fighter Jay Jay Wilson, Renzo Gracie squad members Jason Rau and Oliver Taza, the fearsome Valdir Araujo (aka "BB Monster"), perennial dark horses John Combs and AJ Sousa, and the surging teenagers Roberto Jimenez, William Tackett, and Micael Galvao.

16-man 185lb (middleweights) tournament

The event will take place on Saturday, June 13 at 6:00pm Eastern Time.

This will be the first post-pandemic jiu-jitsu event in Florida. Jitzking will utilize the Gracie Largo Zapata Jiu-Jitsu gym in Clearwater as the venue, and the number of people in the building will be limited to 50.

Precautionary measures to ensure participant safety include:

  • Medical staff evaluating each competitor prior to the event. If any competitor shows up with one or more symptoms, they will be disqualified from competing and will not be allowed in the event.
  • Sanitizing the mats prior to each match.
  • Taking temperatures of all competitors frequently. If anyone is running a fever, they will be disqualified from competing and not allowed in the event.
  • Cleaning/sanitizing stations will be available.
  • Everyone not competing (coaches included) will be wearing a mask.
  • There will be no audience; the event will only be available to watch via live stream.
  • Only one coach will be allowed per competitor.

"We are glad to be back at work doing what we love with a stacked lineup ahead of us," said event organizer Enrique Marroquin.

In addition to the tournament, there will be three superfights. Matheus Machado (Robson Moura's son) will face Diogo Reis in a brown belt match. Corban Sainz and Son Tony will compete in a purple belt superfight. A black belt superfight is TBA.
