Road to Gold: All Three Matches From Victor Hugo's $10k Payday

Already marked as the "next big thing", ultra-heavyweight man mountain Victor Hugo showed off his Six Blades "flow, pressure, finish" style at 3CG Kumite II, defeating three opponents in quick succession for a nice $10k payday.

This performance further propels Hugo to the upper echelons of the black belt rankings. Competing as a black belt for only a year, he has quickly risen to be one of the standout grapplers of his division.

Earlier this year he handed two-time IBJJF World champion Nicholas Meregali a loss on our event, Who's Number One. He returned last week post-shutdown to submit Fellipe Andrew in emphatic fashion, and he carried this momentum into the 3CG heavyweight Kumite.

Victor Hugo's first opponent was man who matches his physical stature, Ricardo Evangelista. Hugo scored in the match with a nice reversal, but was forced to grind out a decision win after an OT period with no score.

The next match saw Victor, possibly the heaviest competitor in the bracket, face Jonnatas Gracie, most certainly the lightest. Hugo demonstrated a speed and mobility that belies his gigantic frame, working his way to the back for an ezekiel choke finish.

The final match saw Victor Hugo face off with Felipe Andrew, who had beaten Jake Watson via golden score and Gustavo Batista via decision. This encounter was a lot different to their last, with Fellipe Andrew meeting Victor Hugo headfirst in the center of the mat and attempting a huge shoulder throw that forced Hugo to cartwheel out.

It was an opportunistic estima lock that ended it– Fellipe Andrew sat back for his trademark straight ankle lock, and Victor answered with a nasty attack that saw Andrew limping off the mat.

The 3CG championship belt gets added to Victor's growing collection, which includes the F2W title belt he picked up last week. And at this rate, we can surely expect to see him collect some more hardware soon.
