Who's Number One (WNO) has emerged as the elite professional grappling show in 2020, and our next event is no exception. WNO: Gordon Ryan vs Matheus DIniz is going down on October 2nd in Austin, and this event is no doubt going to be the biggest professional grappling event of 2020 so far. For our first women's fight on the card, we have brought you none other than the biggest female superstar in the sport, four-time ADCC champion Gabi Garcia.

It's not easy to find a legit challenger for Gabi, as she has dispatched the highest ranked women in her weight class with ease throughout her career. In Elisabeth Clay we have an up and coming 20 year old who is on a crazy win streak, with a guard playing and leglocking style to contrast with Gabi's legendary top game.

This is an intriguing matchup, in this article I'll explain a little about both athletes, and why Elisabeth should be considered the underdog but cannot be counted out.

Gabi Garcia

Gabrielle "Gabi" Garcia has done it all. She is a four-time ADCC champion, first winning ADCC back in 2011. She is also a 9x IBJJF world champion in the gi, and holds a professional grappling record of 68-5 with 37 submissions.

Gabi is the undisputed queen of this weight class, and has been for quite some time. She only has one grappling match post ADCC, where she launched Kendall Reusing off the F2W stage before finishing her with an americana.

While Gabi has been more focused on MMA in recent years, here are her last seven no-gi matches, all wins, going back to ADCC 2017 in Finland -

F2W 142 vs Kendall Reusing americana

ADCC 2019 vs Carina Santi kimura

ADCC 2019 vs Ana Carolina Vieira referee decision

ADCC 2019 vs Stefanie Eggers points

ADCC 2017 vs Talita Treta americana

ADCC 2017 vs Jessica Flowers points

ADCC 2017 vs Amanda Alequin toehold

Elisabeth Clay

Elisabeth Clay is technically just a brown belt, but as we've all seen many times that doesn't mean much in no-gi. Clay first caught our attention when she won the 2017 ADCC west coast trials while still a 16 year old blue belt. She would go on to finish third at the 2019 trials, and should be one of the favorites to make the ADCC podium in 2021.

Elisabeth has been on a tear in the last few of months, really coming into her own as one of the top female no-gi grapplers on the planet. Chelsah Lyons, Kendall Reusing, Luiza Monteiro and Maggie Grindatti are her victims recently, check out her submission of the night winning gogoplata vs Grindatti at the last WNO -

Rankings Implications

Gabi and Clay are currently ranked 1st and 3rd in the women's over 62kg rankings. 2nd ranked Carina Santi can be expected to drop from the rankings due to inactivity by October 2nd though, making this a true battle for Who's Number One between a #1 and #2 ranked athlete.

Gabi should be a huge favorite going into this match, and expected to defend her top spot in the rankings. Should Clay pull out the W however, we could incredibly have a 20 year old holding the top spot in a no-gi ranking. Tune in October 2nd to see what happens!
