The 2020 IBJJF Pan Championship saw seven new champions crowned in an event characterized by underdogs taking out favorites. Catch up on the winners below, with match videos and interviews. 

Men's Finals

Roosterweight: Jonas Andrade vs Lucas Pinheiro (WATCH HERE)

Strong pressure from Pinheiro in this match who played a steady and heavy top game to win gold.

Light Featherweight: Joshua Cisneros vs Pedro Dias Clementino (WATCH HERE)

Cisneros wins his first Pans as a black belt less than three months after earning the rank with a hard-fought victory against Pedro Dias, thank to a late penalty against Dias for going out of bounds. Cisneros beat Paulo Miyao in the quarterfinals, signaling his arrival among the elite.

Featherweight: Thiago Macedo vs Matheus Gabriel (WATCH HERE)

With Macedo up by two points, Gabriel attacked with a flurry of drags until he eventually pummeled beneath Macedo, but Macedo escaped without conceding a score. He tried for a tight Ezekiel choke as time ran out, but Macedo survived.

Middleweight: Jackson Nagai vs Ronaldo Junior (WATCH HERE)

Ronaldo turned up the pace, using his rapid-fire pass sequences. Not finding an opening, he pulled guard once again. With a 6-2 lead, Ronaldo wrapped Nagai in his guard and settled his grips.

Medium Heavyweight: Otavio Sousa vs Matheus Luna (WATCH HERE)

A beefed-up Otavio Sousa claimed his fourth Pan title, returning to the medium-heavyweight division where he had won twice before (2009 and 2010). He added to his most recent, a middleweight gold in 2017, with a steady but hard-fought win over Luna of Checkmat.

Heavyweight: Gustavo Batista vs Dominique Bell (WATCH HERE)

Ultra Heavyweight: Max Gimenis vs Luiz Panza (WATCH HERE)

Fighting up a weight division than usual, Panza showcased his flexibility and open guard game but the big man Max from GF Team was able to put on the pressure and control the match,

Absolute: Fellipe Andrew vs Gustavo Batista (WATCH HERE)

The match took a slow start. Andrew graduated to a leg weave pass position, and as Batista defended it, Andrew slid to mount – he nearly passed but couldn't quite score the points.
