It must be promotion season, as another teen sensation has just earned his brown belt.

Mica Galvao received the promotion from his father, Melqui Galvao, earlier this week.

The Dream Arts standout had a promising start to his purple belt year with a submission victory at the first edition of Who’s Number One. He had another big win this summer at BJJ Bet, but with a  postponed IBJJF season, he wasn’t able to live up to the hype he had created for himself at blue belt.

As a blue belt, Galvao achieved a double grand slam, winning gold in his weight division and the open weight class at Euros, Pans, Brasileros, and Worlds.

Now that IBJJF competition has returned, Galvao will look to turn heads again. Brown belt will be a real step up in competition for Galvao, who turned 17 earlier this month. Starting in January, he’ll be able to compete as an adult.

Earlier this week, Tye and Kade Ruotolo also earned their brown belts. Like Galvao, the Ruotolos will also be eligible as adults in January. With the new talent in the brown belt divisions, we could see a restructuring of the rankings very early next year.
