Fight To Win will close out its three-week stint in Dallas with an all-female card. Fight to Win 165 on Saturday, February 27 will be the second ever card featuring women, only; continuing the promotion’s pattern. Fight to Win has scheduled its third all-female event for the third weekend in March in Austin, TX.

Clay Is Back In The Gi At F2W 165

The 2020 FloGrappling Female Grappler of the Year, Elisabeth Clay will headline against Maria Malyjasiak. This will be something of a rare outing for Clay, who spent all of 2020 climbing the no-gi rankings with several submission wins over top black belts. Clay, who earned her black belt in November 2020, did not compete in the gi at all last year, making this matchup her first in the gi as a black belt.

Clay may be the more recognized name at this point in her career, but Malyjasiak is not to be underestimated. She was the underdog in her last Fight to Win appearance, where she locked up a tight kneebar victory over the no. 1-ranked heavyweight, Nathiely de Jesus.

Clay hasn’t competed in the gi since Pans in March 2019, when she won double bronze at purple belt. Malyjasiak will be a significant test. She’s a 2018 Pan Champion and the no. 2-ranked medium heavyweight. Clay has taken down plenty of high-level black belts in no-gi competition using heel hooks. She has other weapons at her disposal, but one of her favorite attacks will be off limits in this match.

Clay is a rising star, but is relatively untested in no-gi as of late. Malyjasiak is a veteran at the peak of her game, and will have no interest in letting Clay use her as a stepping stone.

In the co-main event, Luiza Monteiro will take on Jessica Flowers in a battle of styles. Flowers has a crushing pressure game, but she’ll have to open up if she wants to beat the aggressive Monteiro in the Fight to Win ruleset. Monteiro has an attack-heavy game, and if she gets to an offensive position early, she’ll likely be primed to outwork Flowers. But Flowers is significantly heavier; if she can use her weight to her advantage, it would only take a few legitimate attacks to secure the win.

Fight to Win 165 starts on Feb 20, 2021.
