Two WNO Title Belts On The Line On October 20

FloGrappling’s WNO will crown two champions on Wednesday, October 20, as the female flyweight and bantamweight belts will be disputed in the main and co-main event.

Two multiple-time world champions will square off for the 135 lb strap in the main event. Generally considered one of the greatest female grapplers of all time, 2017 ADCC champion Beatriz Mesquita will face three-time IBJJF no-gi world champion Luiza Monteiro.

Bia Mesquita will be making her WNO debut in the title shot, but her style is well-crafted for the WNO style. Throughout her career, Mesquita has shown explosive wrestling ability, athletic technical ability, and an overall affinity for fan-friendly, gritty jiu-jitsu.

Her opponent, Luiza Monteiro, is looking for her first win on the WNO stage, after losing a close decision to Nathalie Ribeiro in her debut last year. The match was back and forth, and came down to a toss-up. Monteiro is one of the most decorated female competitors in jiu-jitsu, with nearly 11 years of experience competing at the highest level. She’s deserving of the title shot. This match has all of the ingredients of a scrap.

In the co-main event, the women’s 125 lb belt is on the line between two no-gi world champions as Ffion Davies will make her first competitive appearance in 2021 against Nathalie Ribeiro. Davies, also an ADCC silver Medalist, rose to fame in 2019 after an early-round ADCC upset victory, breaking the arm of Bia Mesquita. Davies has one of the highest submission rates in the female bantamweight division at 71%.

Her opponent, “Tata” Ribeiro has been incredibly successful while Davies has been on hiatus. Ribeiro has won a handful of no-gi Pans titles, won her debut match on WNO, and has been piling up highlight reel performances.

This could easily be the match of the night, between the no.2 and no.3-ranked athletes in the bantamweight division.

Stay tuned after the WNO Championships on September 25-26, as more matches — including another title bout — will be announced soon. WNO: Mesquita vs Monteiro, is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20, 2021.
