Day two of the 2022 IBJJF European Championships saw the purple belts take the mats. GF Team’s Pedro Rubim won double gold, winning eight matches and hitting three submissions to claim the medium heavyweight and absolute division titles.

Middleweight Jose Steves of Belgium made his purple belt debut at Euros after winning Worlds at blue belt last December. His debut was a whopping success; Steves submitted all six of his opponents in the middleweight division and captured gold, and made it to the final in the absolute division before losing to Rubim.

Lightweight champion Fabyury Freitas, also representing GF Team, earned his brown belt on the podium after submitting four of his five opponents. He only missed the submission in the final, where he still dominated.

Yarin Shriki of Israel mopped up in the featherweight division, finishing four of his five matches by submission — and two of them in the final minute.

The female blue belts also competed today; Unity’s Laura Kolm took double gold, winning the heavyweight and open weight divisions.
