Gordon Ryan Lands $100k Sponsorship Deal for ADCC 2022
  • 2019 ADCC double gold champion Gordon Ryan, 26, is considered to be the best no-gi submission grappler in the world today.
  • Ryan will make history at the 2022 ADCC World Championships when he competes in both the +99kg division and in the superfight versus rival Andre Galvao.
  • Cryptocurrency Bitcoin Cash will sponsor Gordon Ryan to the sum of $100,000 to wear their logo at ADCC 2022.

The 2022 ADCC World Championship is set to the biggest no-gi grappling event in history. To be held in front of a record 13,000 fans at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas on September 17-18, 2022, the event continues to elevate jiu-jitsu to the next level and the latest news is that Gordon Ryan has secured a ground-breaking sponsorship deal.

Ryan will compete in both the +99kg division and the ADCC superfight against Andre Galvao. He will be sponsored by cryptocurrency Bitcoin Cash, an altcoin created in 2017 and derived from Bitcoin.

"This is by far the biggest sponsorship deal in the sport by a landslide, it’s two and a half times more what the superfight champion was making in the previous ADCC." says Ryan. "I’m making as much from this sponsor as I am to win against Andre. I’m happy we’re here, and I’m happy we’ve pushed this sport to a semi-professional level and I’m excited to see where it goes."

Bitcoin Cash will sponsor Ryan the six-figure sum for wearing their logo on his competition gear during the event.

"This sponsorship is a little different than most of my others. The whole premise is built around ADCC, whereas my previous sponsors were year-long contracts. This is built around one specific event," explains Ryan.

In an exclusive interview with FloGrappling, Ryan says that this is his biggest single sponsorship to date, and described how it compared to his previous ADCC experiences.

"To put things into perspective, in 2017 right before ADCC when I was just starting to get sponsors, I think I had three or four sponsors and I was making $1800 a month, which was not even enough to pay my bills. Fast forward to 2019 before ADCC, and I was making $25,000 a month from sponsorships." – Gordon Ryan

ADCC World Championship promoter Mo Jassim stated that generating income opportunities for the athletes was always a goal of his.

"This was my vision from day 1. Put on amazing entertaining grappling events, bring in a much larger audience(13k), which then brings in major sponsors who will put up some heavy sponsorship deals. This is the power of ADCC 2022 and will continue to grow and have effects after the event." – Mo Jassim

Jassim has publicly spoken about how athletes will be able to earn money via the sale of merchandising such as personalized jerseys and toy figurines, NFTs and more, and hinted at future announcements that will further benefit the competitors.
