Mikey Musumeci will put his WNO bantamweight title on the line against rival Geo Martinez in the  main event of Tezos WNO Presented By Fat Tire on March 25 in Frisco, TX.

There’s a lot at stake for both athletes in this rematch, as the last time they fought, the pre-match trash talk spilled over. At FloGrappling’s Road to ADCC event in July 2021, Musumeci and Martinez fought in a 20 minute ADCC rules match at 66 kg.

They had been subtly bantering back and forth in the weeks leading up to the match, but emotions escalated afterward, as Musumeci took exception to a comment made by Martinez before the hand raise.

During the match, Musumeci had demonstrated control. He had a tight armbar, and several footlock entries, but he was unable to submit the notoriously flexible Martinez. Toward the end of the match, Musumeci earned back control to solidify his points and a victory.

Before the WNO Championship, Musumeci said he wanted an early 155 lb rematch with Martinez, and claimed he had been developing his breaking mechanics to force a tap from Martinez in their next encounter.

That rematch never came, as both Musumeci and Martinez dropped in the first round.

Now the match is set, and this time, in a weight category that is more familiar to both athletes.

Musumeci, now 5-1 on the WNO mats, has never lost in a 135 lb match, and has maintained a 60% submission rate. Martinez, meanwhile, has been successful in the 145 lb category on WNO, where he’s 2-2 with victories over Paulo Miyao and Junny Ocasio. But early in his career, Martinez was most successful in the 135 lb division, where he was a two-time EBI champion.
