5x Pan Champ Beatriz Mesquita Anxious About New Wave of Opponents

Beatriz Mesquita may be a five-time IBJJF Pan champion but she's still anxious for the competition this weekend. The Gracie Humaita team member is defending champion and a heavy favorite for the female black belt lightweight division. This is her first competition in the gi since last year's Worlds, but she says she's been training hard all year. 

"My body was really tired, I needed a break. Since January I've been back in the gi and training hard to be here. 

"There are a lot of good girls coming from the brown belt, I'm actually really anxious for that. It's not easy, especially now there are so many girls , the tournaments are getting bigger. 

"I'm happy to see there are more girls, but at the same time I'm like 'man, so many fights!'. But I'm preparing to do my best."
