Gianni Grippo is 100%! 'No Injury, Focus Is Worlds'
Flograppling caught up with Marcelo Garcia black belt Gianni Grippo during the Submit the Stigma seminar in San Diego California at Studio 540 to talk injury recovery and the 2016 IBJJF Pan Jiu-Jitsu Championships. After undergoing meniscus surgery in February Grippo hasn't competed at all this year but with Polaris 3 just one week away he's itching to get back at it.
'Really there is no injury now, and I'm not even just trying to hide it. I had meniscus surgery right after Europeans. I got hurt in January so I knew I was out for that. And for Pans I really wanted to compete, but I was on the fence, should I compete, should I not compete. That told me to skip this one. If you have a little bit of doubt in your mind you should just be careful. Black belt has a lot of good guys so I want to make sure I'm 100% prepared. I have been training for a while, 4 plus weeks I believe. In two weeks I'll be competing in Polaris against Bruno Frazzato. I can't wait it was killing me watching this weekend. I love being out there I love competing, I love feeling like I'm putting in effort. Sitting on the side is not a good feeling for me. I'm looking forward to Polaris, I'm doing the World Pro. I might be doing a superfight. My main focus is getting ready for Worlds."
